What device did you use for this test?

Does this bug appear in older versions as well (is it a new regression)?

I used LINK, this is CrOS specific bug at this moment. Similar bug (crbug/648682) repro on all platforms but went away itself so it makes us suspect it is a YouTube bug but not media bug. This may also be a variation of crbug/648710.

No repro for all of the provided videos. Tested on LINK with 56.0.2924.9 (slightly more recent). Sounds like it may have just been network related? Yinning, let me know if you can reproduce.

not repro anymore.

I see this issue repro on CrOS LINK+chrome59.0.3071.35 again. The connection speed is ~28Mbps, there is about 20% drop rate when playing 4k video.

Summary: on CrOS, 4k video playback is stuttering, about 20% drop rate. (was: on CrOS, streaming is pretty choppy, need buffering every 3~5 seconds on high resolution 1080p)
this issue still repro on CrOS LINK device with Chrome build 60.0.3112.10

I don't see this repro anymore when play 4k video on CrOS LINK device with Chrome 61.0.3159.8
I used these two 4k videos

bring this bug back. the 4k 60fps video has very high (50%) drop rate on Chromebook LINK, the stuttering is so bad, video is unwatchable.
repro video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_fC53l3jGAc
Is this something need fix? LINK is very high end ChromeBook.
I've not had success reproducing this on the LINK device we have in SEA. I'll visit KIR next week and take a look.
posciak@chromium.org - I think this is working as intended, but would like your review.

This device struggles with VP9 (via libVPX) at 4k@60fps (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_fC53l3jGAc). Is that meeting expectations for this device? Also, do we expect that libVPX will be used for VP9?

If we lower the framerate to 30fps (e.g. videos from comment #8), things are reasonably smooth. Lower resolutions (e.g. the 1080p videos from initial report) show no issues.
Definitely pixel device isn't expected to handle 4k60 software vp9. 1440p might be okay, but even that is stretching it.

posciak@ - assigning to you to answer lingering question: Do we expect hardware accelerated decoding for VP9 on LINK?

We're currently seeing libVPX used, and it can't keep up with 4k60 on this device. If libVPX is the expected decoder, please close as WontFix (working as intended)
Status: WontFix (was: Assigned)
Link does not have VP9 HW decode acceleration.
