security issues when trying to access common websites

Reported by brfole...@gmail.com, Nov 14 2016

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Ubuntu Chromium/53.0.2785.143 Chrome/53.0.2785.143 Safari/537.36

Example URL:
https://nytimes.com

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Try to load website
2.
3.

What is the expected behavior?
The website, with all images and html formatting loads

What went wrong?
The main page, and other pages on the domain fail to load. If I inspect the page, there is a long series of errors like "net::ERR_INSECURE_RESPONSE", "Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'processFlags' of undefined" and "Uncaught TypeError: require is not a function(anonymous function)"

Does it occur on multiple sites: Yes

Is it a problem with a plugin? No

Did this work before? Yes

Does this work in other browsers? Yes

Chrome version: 53.0.2785.143 Channel: n/a
OS Version: ubuntu 16.04
Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 22.0 r0

The same thing happens in incognito mode, but not in Firefox. It is specific to the NYT and a few other sites I commonly visit. I checked the security settings, but these sites don't seem to be accidentally flagged as untrusted. I uninstalled, and cleanly reinstalled Chromium, but nothing changed.

I am experiencing the same
Version 53.0.2785.143 Built on Ubuntu , running on Ubuntu 16.04 (64-bit)
Many sites are not working, here's a picture from yahoo mail.
It stopped working yesterday.

Thanks.

When I inspect the issue more closely, looking at individual addresses that cause the problem, e.g. https://static01.nyt.com/images/2016/11/11/us/00power/00power-thumbStandard.jpg it seems to be a problem with expired/untrusted Symantec security certificates?
Components: -Blink Internals>Network>SSL
This all points to an SSL issue of some sort

These symptoms + Chrome 53 on Linux => almost certainly a case of Issue 664177 .
