"More" button is unusable with a single hand |
||||||||
Issue descriptionSteps to reproduce: 1) Open a New Tab Page 2) Scroll down to a section that has a "more" button 3) Holding the device in your right hand only, try to tap the "more" button. Observed behavior: It's almost impossible to hit the "More" button on the left side with just one hand. Given the size of modern flagship phones, and the fact that Chrome mobile UI is moving towards single-handed use (cf. moving the omnibox down), we should also enable one-handed use of the New Tab Page.

Adding zine-ux label to bump the issue, as it's part of the Chrome Home feedback.

Is there a reason we made the touch target small for MORE? Just trying to understand the design rationale.

IIRC the reasoning was that this matched the material design guide.

Ah interesting. Feels similar to this bug https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=670340 where info links are hard to click.

The main reasons were material spec and scalability. :) We'll likely want to add additional actions in the future.

Ah I see. That makes sense. I wonder if there was other design solutions. Right now, I feel like browsing Zine ends abruptly by having to find and tap the more button.

We're planning on moving to a single feed with infinite scroll in the future, which will eliminate the need for a "more" button. :)

FWIW, making the tap target larger here seems to me like a good thing to do unless we're planning to add additional buttons to the same row.

At the time we were. Now we're planning to remove the more action and move to an endless feed. :)

With the plan to launch in modern style, I'll move to a different affordance here (since we'll have individual modules for each article). We'll likely go with pull to fetch or a different type of button. |
