Opening Downloads home on tablets causes Chrome to Crash

Version: 56.0.2915.0 (Canary)
OS: Android
Device: N9 / Pixel C

What steps will reproduce the problem?
(1) Open menu
(2) Click on "Downloads" 

OR 

(1) Download a website
(2) Click on the "More" button in the NTP downloads section

What is the expected result?
- Downloads home should open

What happens instead?
- Chrome crashes

This seems to happen only on tablets! On my N5 it works as expected.

Note: In 56.0.2919.0 (Canary) it seems to work.
