Chrome Translator Interaction With Label Elements Bug

Reported by ben.kr...@dogwoodhills.com, Nov 10 2016

Issue description

[Language]
Spanish to English Conversion

[Version number]
Version 54.0.2840.99 m (64-bit)

[OS details]
Windows 10 Pro: Version 1607 (Build 14393.447)

[Where is the poor translation?]
http://telemundo.clientmediaserver.com/20151012_programacion/preview/

The words are properly translated, however it breaks the formatting of the HTML layout. The dropdowns use checkboxes and labels to function. What happens when the document is translated is the labels get duplicated and placed into a tag group called <font> then renders the corrected text. It also creates 4 additional dropdown with the css triangle only in them beneath the rest of the contnet. These are the actual dropdowns where the content is stored. And, they all still have thier label code in the correct place. So, translate is duplicating and reorganizing labels for some reason? Screenshot below for further reference.

Hi,

Is this issue still persistent? I'm seeing differently from my side.

Cheers,
Geoff

Hi Geoff, it only happens once you have translated the page to something other than Spanish. The page is written with Spanish text... So converting to any other language than that causes the issue. I am afraid to report that the issue still exists.

Thanks for the response. Are you using the Google Translate function in the URL portion of your browser? I tried that and it gave me the same issue as you posted.

Could you also please confirm if this happens on other Spanish websites? This would narrow down the possible causes and would help us find solutions. Thanks!
Yes, I am using the Google translate feature in the browser. This does not happen on all Spanish websites, but it does occur on any site where they are using css check boxes to simulate drop down actions (outlined in OP). This is an issue with translator and how it changes the HTML code after it does the job. The problem is that Google translator is not just translating the text, but also appear to be translating bits of html. View the site as intended and study the HTML briefly using code inspector. Then translate the page and view code inspector again. You will see the changes that are made.

@Chrome Team

This issue has been Available for over a year. If it's no longer important or seems unlikely to be fixed, please consider closing it out. If it is important, please re-triage the issue.

Sorry for the inconvenience if the bug really should have been left as Available.

Thanks for the reply... While it is still important, and still currently an issue on the original live page. Eventually, the page will be upgraded to remove this functionality since the issues have not been fixed. For future development, I just intend to avoid this all together. May be a good idea to keep this issue live though in case others run into it.
