ChromeVox on Chrome OS pronounces "button" as "bun"

What steps will reproduce the problem?
(1) Turn on ChromeVox and focus a button.

What is the expected output?
ChromeVox clearly speaks "button".

What do you see instead?
ChromeVox uses a weird pronunciation that's halfway between "bun" and "budn".
