Labels: M-55

Installed the same build on iPhone 6S with 9.0.2 (64bit) and iPod Touch 5th generation (32 bit) with 9.2.1. Spotlight worked on the iPhone but not the iPod. For now it looks like it could be an architecture related issue...

There is a TestFlight user with iOS9 and an original iPad Air who has the same issue. It could be that this feature is disabled for lower-powered/older devices at the OS level?

Comment 4 by sczs@chromium.org, Nov 3 2016

That's 64 bit, so I guess we can discard my theory.
Is the TestFlight user on 9.2.1? If not I guess it could be possible that the feature is disabled on old devices.
I can't repro with an iPad 4th generation and iOS 9.0.

Comment 6 by sczs@chromium.org, Nov 3 2016

From Apple's Documentation:

"Although app search is available for iOS 9 users, the search functionality of NSUserActivity and Core Spotlight is not supported on iPhone 4s, iPad 2, iPad (3rd generation), iPad mini, and iPod touch (5th generation)."

That still doesn't explain the original iPad Air, or is that 3rd generation?
Dupplicate of 561390 ?
We could ask the user if he sees entry for other applications and if Spotlight is enabled in the iOS settings.

I am that user who submitted the request (axv2514) I see entries for many other applications, including Google drive and Google keep in my spotlight search, just not google chrome. If it matters, I am on iOS 9.3.2 specifically. spotlight search is enabled for chrome, just checked

Comment 11 by arj...@gmail.com, Nov 3 2016

Actually, just checked, somehow worked for me now. I don't know what caused this. I haven't done anything significant, just used my iPad Air 1 like normal

Could you give us the approximative number of bookmarks you have?

Comment 13 by arj...@gmail.com, Nov 4 2016

Exactly 10 mobile bookmarks, 6 in the mobile bookmarks folder, and 2 folders, containing 1 and 3 bookmarks respectively. But waaay more desktop bookmarks.

The bookmarks are also indexed in the Spotlight index and if you have a lot of synced bookmarks, the refreshing of the index by iOS can take some time.
You can trigger it by rebooting the phone.

Should we add in the WhatsNew notes that the appearance of these items in spotlight may take a while?

Re #15: Yes. We could.

Summary: Spotlight Actions may take time to be indexed. (was: Spotlight Actions don't work on iPod Touch 5G)
Renaming as Spotlight not working is not a Chrome issue.
Should we also specify that 32 bits devices may not have the feature?
Following up with Robert (in addition).

Re #17: Sounds like a good idea.

The actions should show up instantaneously (except for devices in #6). Bookmark indexing could also take a while due to syncing time.
What's new message for TestFlight will be updated to reflect this.
