DevRel-SAP: Strange layouting with different zoom levels

Reported by orit.ha...@sap.com, Nov 3 2016

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/54.0.2840.71 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Open http://jsbin.com/tuberiyije/1/edit?html,output
2. Use different Zoomings (Ctrl + +/-)

What is the expected behavior?
The height of the table rows and the height of the divs on the left side remain the same even when Zooming (Ctrl + +/-).

What went wrong?
The height of the table rows and the height of the divs on the left side are the same but when using Zooming (Ctrl + +/-) they differ.

Did this work before? N/A

Chrome version: 54.0.2840.71 Channel: n/a
OS Version: 6.1 (Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2)
Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 23.0 r0

Works fine in IE11 and FF.

We need to try a repro and bisect if needed. Targeting for M55 since M54 is already in stable.

Tested the issue on chrome Stable #54.0.2840.87, Canary 56.0.2908.0 in Windows 10.0 and was able to reproduce the issue.

This is a Non-Regression issue since seeing this from M30 #30.0.1549.0, Making the status to Untriaged so that the issue would get addressed.

Note : 1.Able to reproduce the issue in MAC 10.11.6 and Linux Ubuntu 14.04.
2.This is a Non regression issue hence removing the "Release Block Stable" label.

Thank you!

Are you able to repro this bug on M55 Beta #55.0.2883.35?

Adding back "ReleaseBlock-Stable" label so we can track it for M55.

This is not a regression and is by design. Tables layout is not subpixel aware and thus scales in full pixel increments. This was decided for web-compat and reasons back when we first added subpixel support to the layout engine.

Now that there is agreement to do subpixel table layout across browser engines we do plan to add support for it, tracked in 377847. See that bug for details.

I think the problem here is not whether sub-pixels are supported or not.
The code does not define any sub-pixels but a fixed height of 25px. But it only gets 24.333px for the table row. Similar for the div.

The elements get snapped to the nearest device pixel, see https://trac.webkit.org/wiki/LayoutUnit for details.
