Issue description
Chrome Version : 54.0.2840.71 (Official Build) m (64-bit)
URLs (if applicable) : Will give on request as its in development
Other browsers tested:
Add OK or FAIL, along with the version, after other browsers where you
have tested this issue:
Safari:
Firefox: OK 49.0.2 (Very fast response time)
IE: N/A Can does not render the same
What steps will reproduce the problem?
(1) Open the developer tools
(2) Hover over an element and it will highlight in the browser window
(3) Move the mouse to hover another element to highlight it in the browser window
What is the expected result?
< 30ms frame render time
What happens instead?
> 600ms frame render time
Please provide any additional information below. Attach a screenshot if
possible.
Attached are 3 screen shots, 'Site.png' is the site under inspection.
'Inspector.png' is the dev tools that is open for the site.
And 'InspectingInspector.png' is a timeline created by me just hovering over different elemetns on the page. Note the 6395.5ms frame time with no apparent reason.
And i can not rule out Jank, but i don't think janking is the issue here since crome will render < 10ms frames with no issues.
I have tried to uninstall chrome and delete all associated user folders, then re-install clean and un-modified with the same issue still present.
Tried disabling and removing all extensions.
I think this issue started with version 50.
My work system which i use all day every day is a Dell XPS13 with a core i7.
Its the highest spec XPS13 with QHD+ (3200 x 1800) InfinityEdge touch display
My home system has a similar issue, but not as bad. And it has a Core i7 with a Radeon HD7970.
My Macbook Air with Bootcamp didn't have this issue. (Dual display)
I do use 3 monitors usually, but this never used to be an issue.
Usually the Thunderbolt Apple Cinema displays.
I get the feeling this is more related to Windows and the interface with the GPU.
Disabling "Use hardware Acceleration" does not improve the issue but it does change.

I am experiencing the exact same issue today. If I hover over several elements in the inspector, the browser highlights each element as if each element hovered needed to complete an animation transition before moving to the next. This can completely lock up my browser. I also feel a bit of lag when adding new styles. It feels like the text is being displayed on a delay after I type. Updated, restarted, reset Chrome, disabled plugins, tested with a single site open. Version 54.0.2840.87 (64-bit) OS X Yosemite 10.10.5

I am happy to say that my inspecting experience is an order of magnate faster after updating to version 55.0.2883.75. I wouldn't expect much more performance from the hardware i am running. So i would say the issue is resolved.

I also completely disagree with luoe@chromium.org. The exact behaviour described by the author of 624097 was fast for me. I could change tabs rapidly and using breakpoints was reasonably fast. My issue was more specific to the rendering of the highlighted areas on the page while hovering over elements in the inspector. |
