Ctrl+Click not supported on Refresh button (does work on Forward/Back buttons). |
|||
Issue descriptionChrome Version (from the about:version page): 54.0.2840.71 (Official Build) (64-bit) Is this the most recent version: I believe so. chrome://help/ does not offer a newer version. OS + version: Goobuntu 14.04 CPU architecture (32-bit / 64-bit): 64-bit Window manager: Mutter (Muffin) URLs (if relevant): Behavior in Linux Firefox: N/A Behavior in Windows Chrome (if you have access to it): Do not have access. However this feature works on macOS. What steps will reproduce the problem? (1) Hold Ctrl and click the Refresh button. What is the expected result? The current URL is cloned into a new tab. What happens instead? The current page is reloaded. Please provide any additional information below. Attach a screenshot and backtrace if possible. I often want to clone the current page into a new tab and use this handy trick frequently in Chrome on macOS. It ends up being disruptive on Goobuntu because I forget that this is not supported there, and then end up losing the state of the current page. It's very easy to forget that this is not supported for the Refresh button because it works for the Back/Forward buttons (including the list of links that is exposed when you right-click the Back button) -- it's for this reason that I am filing this as a defect and not a FR.

Looks from the wiki link like Chrome is trying to be compatible with both IE (Ctrl) and FF (Shift) behavior here. So I guess macOS Chrome is the odd man out. I suppose this should be closed as Wont Fix.

As Per Comment #3, changing the status to won't fix

For posterity, I finally stumbled upon a way to achieve this behavior (at least on Linux) by happy accident. If you middle click the refresh button, it will clone the tab. If your mouse lacks middle click, you can simulate one by clicking the left and right mouse buttons simultaneously. :D |
