Web font rendering incorrectly on retina on Macbook Pros

Reported by d...@moneytree.jp, Oct 27 2016

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_11_5) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/54.0.2840.71 Safari/537.36

Example URL:
www.moneytree.jp/app

Steps to reproduce the problem:
There are prerequisites for this to be reproduced.
1. You need a Macbook Pro with a Retina screen
2. You need an external monitor

I was able to reproduce this consistently on all my co-workers Macbook Pros and external monitors. There was a combination of Yosemite, and El Capitan. I was also not able to reproduce it on Firefox or Safari. I was not able to reproduce on a iMac, and a Macbook Air (both which did not have a retina screen).

1. Go to the website https://www.moneytree.jp/app using your external monitor
2. Move the browser window to your Macbook Pro's monitor

I couldn't upload it using this form, but I have a video recorded and hosted here:
 https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9gmDU0FM4W4NGUwMnBLN2Q5MHM/view?usp=sharing

I couldn't re-confirm to see if it worked on previous versions of Chrome since everyone had version 54.

What is the expected behavior?

What went wrong?

Does it occur on multiple sites: N/A

Is it a problem with a plugin? No

Did this work before? Yes N/A

Does this work in other browsers? Yes

Chrome version: 54.0.2840.71 Channel: stable
OS Version: OS X 10.11.5
Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 23.0 r0

The reason why I don't think it's a CSS issue is because it works well on the non-retina screens.

Also, the web font was generated using: https://icomoon.io/
Components: Blink

Comment 4 by bokan@chromium.org, Nov 1 2016

Components: -Blink Internals>Compositing Blink>WebFonts
Looks like a graphics issue. Retina screen issues usually point to an issue in compositing.
Owner: ksakamoto@chromium.org
As per triage guidelines, assigning it to ksakamoto@ to take a look if Blink>WebFonts is the right component.
ksakamoto@, PTAL, Thanks!
Couldn't reproduce on my environment but this looks similar to Bug 663973 which is fixed in M56.

dmak@, could you try reproducing it on Chrome 56 (beta) or 57 (canary)?
