Vertical bar in hangouts when typing

OS	Mac OS X 
JavaScript	V8 5.6.134

This is on OS X 10.11.6 (15G1004)

What steps will reproduce the problem?
(1) Open a hangout chat in gmail.
(2) Type a a message.

The vertical bar blinks with the caret too which is strange.

I can't reproduce this on 56.0.2900.0. esprehn@, have you seen it on any other machine or version?
