Printing not enabled on Android after adding printers |
||||
Issue descriptionVersion: 54 stable OS: Android N What steps will reproduce the problem? (1) Start with Cloud Print turned off in the system settings, i.e. no printers available (2) Launch Chrome (3) Navigate to chrome://version (4) Open the menu, see the "Print" option is disabled, and ctrl + p from a keyboard does not work (5) Go back to the system settings, turn on Cloud Print (6) Go back to Chrome, try to print again. Expected: Print is enabled Actual: Print is still disabled One must terminate Chrome and restart for printing to become availble.

This issue is probably outdated since we merged printing option to Share. However, when I was playing with ctrl + p to trigger printing job, I am getting crashes from printspooler, it might be related to crbug 677049. I'll investigate more on the crash.

This is probably obsoleted, without the crash I observed before, disable cloud print won't block printing tasks, there is always a printer "Save as PDF". I am testing on Pixel C with Android 7.1.2 N2G48G. For the crash I saw before, it disappeared by restarting the device. I think there might be a bug in Android framework and related to issue 677049, but unfortunately can't tell where does the bug set since I can't reproduce the crash anymore. thestig@, can you still repro this bug?

Probably cannot repro anymore. My test device is on Android O already, so there might be a slight apples vs. oranges comparison here. I don't have a keyboard hooked up so I can't test ctrl + p right now. Can you see if ctrl + p works still on Android, if you have a keyboard for your Pixel C? Since last year, printing has moved into the Share menu item, and the Share menu item does not appear for chrome://version, so the test need to be conducted with a regular webpage. Right now, if I share, print is available as a share target even with all the printing services turned off in the system settings.

I have tested ctrl + p on both regular page and chrome://version page, it works just fine with or without any printing services enabled. I think "Save as PDF" can't be disabled, so even all other printing services are turned off, we still can perform printing job, so it is fine to still have print as share target.

Thanks for checking. I guess it's safe to close. |
