Chromium uses 100% CPU and 100% ram/swap causing system halt

Reported by forsqui...@gmail.com, Oct 20 2016

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Ubuntu Chromium/53.0.2785.143 Chrome/53.0.2785.143 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Open browser to mail.google.com
2. login
3. leave unattended

What is the expected behavior?
Should just 'work' without issue

What went wrong?
mail.google.com starts to use all available swap/ram/cpu until system crashes.

Did this work before? Yes 2 stable release Versions prior, unsure of version #

Chrome version: 53.0.2785.143 Channel: stable
OS Version: Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS
Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 11.2 r999

This has also carried over into Chrome with same issue. Installed chromium to figure out solution, same bug exists.
