Non-Regression: Font change doesn't reflect untill one hovers on dropdown menu

Test URL: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/font-changer-with-google/jgjhhoglgjdklldfgoffdiaceffijeke

What steps will reproduce the problem?
(1)Launch chrome and add above extension >> Click on extension icon and open font dropdown 
(2)Drag scrollbar to down and observe font of fonts present in dropdown >> Now hover on dropdown menu items and observe

Expected: Change should reflect without hovering on it.
Actual: Instead change of font is seen only when hovering and delay is seen in changing of font.

This is a Non-regression issue as same is seem from M36 series.

Able to reproduce the issue on Mac 10.11.6 using chrome version 54.0.2840.68

It's not a <select> form control.

I'm not sure if the current behavior is wrong.  I don't think we need to do anything until the extension author complains it.
