samus screen goes dark, looks like suspend/resume but for no good reason

Project Member Reported by semenzato@chromium.org, Oct 18 2016

Issue description

From the user:

My Pixel 2 occasionally has the screen go all black, all keyboard input seems unresponsive (including power button and reboot combinations), and then some period of time (maybe around 30 seconds typically, but sometimes shorter/longer) later the screen turns back on, usually as if waking up from suspend (i.e., there's the lock screen prompt, all my windows are still open and live, and WiFi is reconnecting).

When this happens, it usually happens repetitively: once every 5 minutes or so, until I give up on using my Pixel 2 for a while.

Also, this only seems to happen on GBUS. I've never seen this while using this Pixel 2 at home, work, or elsewhere.

I was initially suspecting it could have been related to the GBUS power outlets being noisy, because usually it also happens only when I'm plugged in on the GBUS. But just this afternoon it happened twice while I was running only on battery (the second time while writing this email).

The report is from 10/12 at 5:16pm. There is a DHCP renew at 5:05, but I think that the last disconnect/connect happens at 4:35 (netlog starts at 4:34). Kernel log shows a resume at that time, so that looks legitimate. Maybe the system went to sleep unexpectedly? Event log shows "open lid" at that time.

Maybe a flaky reed switch?
