Unpredictable/sporadic problems with page content - blank/white or black pages - when switching between tabs or opening new tabs

Reported by dmachaje...@istcoalition.org, Oct 17 2016

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_11_6) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/54.0.2840.59 Safari/537.36

Example URL:
N/A

Steps to reproduce the problem:
Unpredictable - this appears to happen randomly despite many attempts to reproduce.

What is the expected behavior?
When clicking back to already-open tag, page content should display

When clicking new tab button and entering address/search, content should load.

What went wrong?
Clicking back to already-open tab finds the entire window blank/white, sometimes completely black, or sometimes spotted with large black boxes.

Does it occur on multiple sites: Yes

Is it a problem with a plugin? No

Did this work before? Yes Unsure - started within past month

Does this work in other browsers? Yes

Chrome version: 54.0.2840.59 Channel: stable
OS Version: OS X 10.11.6
Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 23.0 r0

I have searched extensively for a solution to this. I have uninstalled/reinstalled chrome, removed all extensions, conducted malware scans, etc.

The problem is difficult to predict/reproduce. I originally thought there was an issue with an extension. After then completely clearing all chrome data, uninstalling, re-installing, and using the browser with a new chrome login and no extensions installed, the bug reappeared.

Cannot reproduce with stable version 54.0.2840.59 on Mac 10.11.6. Does the bug still exist?

https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=664513 has very similar description of behavior, and the behavior goes away when GPU and GPU compositing is disabled.

So please, if the problem is still occurring try --disable-gpu or --disable-gpu-compositing

Absolutely can confirm this issue with both black and white screens

having this in macos 10.11.4 with latest chrome and without any addon (all has been disabled to find real reason)

Also want to add that killing gpu process item in task manager helps to solve this . at least for a while

Please try to fix this. its highly annoing

Intel HD 3000. All GPU features are blacklisted. Dual-GPU, AMD with device 0x6760 as the second GPU. I don't think we have this old hardware in house to test with. We might be able to provoke the behavior with our Intel HD 3000 MacBook Air.

Given the presence of switchable graphics with an HD3000 and the very similar visual artifacts, this is almost certainly a duplicate of crbug.com/661596 . Duping this bug to that one.

Note that this issue should be fixed in Canary/Dev 58.0.3014.0 or Beta 57.0.2987.68.
