Latin text handling on Burmese Site using Padauk font showing incorrectly

Example URL:
http://www.bbc.com/burmese

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1.  Use the Padauk font
2. Type Latin Text
3. See the letters overlap on chrome only.

What is the expected behavior?
The Text should display in a readable format. It should be readable and not have letters overlapping

What went wrong?
The letters load overlapped and unreadable. See attached screenshots of latin text on 'http://www.bbc.com/burmese' on Chrome and Firefox. As you can see it handles latin text fine on Firefox

Does it occur on multiple sites: N/A

Is it a problem with a plugin? N/A 

Did this work before? N/A 

Does this work in other browsers? Yes

Chrome version: 53.0.2785.143  Channel: n/a

Able to reproduce this issue on Windows 10, Ubuntu 14.04 and Mac 10.12 on latest chrome Stable version 54.0.2840.59. Issue is broken in M52. 
Below are the bisect details for the same:

Bisect Info:
===========
Good Build : 53.0.2705.0,  Revision Range (386318)                                           
Bad Build  : 48.0.2706.0 , Revision Range (386523)

PS: On doing bisecting, it is invoking the chrome builds which does'nt have option to translate the language from burmese to english.

After doing a search from the ChangeLogs

Still able to reproduce the issue on windows 7 using chrome latest stable 54.0.2840.99 and canary 56.0.2922.0.
