Sign in modal breaks cmd+w

Version: 54.0.2840.50 beta (64-bit)
OS: OS X

What steps will reproduce the problem?
(1) Get the modal login prompt
(2) Press cmd+w 

What is the expected output?

Modal screen should close

What do you see instead?

Nada

This was probably an intentional decision, but filing a bug just in case it isn't. I would expect as a mac user to follow global window shortcuts.

I'm pretty sure this is how all modal dialogues work on Mac (not just the sign in one). This seems like a more general question: should a user be able to close a tab via cmd+w that has a modal dialogue attached to it?

Re-assigning to Alan and adding some UX/desktop folks in.
