Project Member Reported by aska...@chromium.org, Oct 5 2016

Issue description

Application Version (from "Chrome Settings > About Chrome"): M53, M54
Android Build Number (from "Android Settings > About Phone/Tablet"): NMF03, MMb29M
Device: Nexus 6P, S5 Verizon

Steps to reproduce:
1. Go to http://people.mozilla.org/~rgiles/2013/demo.html
2. Play the video
3. Tap the fullscreen icon
4. Tap the Cast icon
5. Tap on an available Chromecast device
6. Wait for the video to start playing on the selected Chromecast

Observed behavior:
Subtitle of the casted video do not showup on the tv. They instead show up on the phone ( in the black video screen)

Expected behavior:
The video's subtitles are displayed on the Chromecast

Frequency:
100%

Additional comments:
Not a recent regression. Seems to be broken in M53 as well.

This feature was never supported. Might be fixed with the undergoing RemotePlayback API implementation work and additional Blink plumbing.
See also issue 297024 , which has been open for more than 3 years.

Issue 297024 has been merged into this issue.
Actually an ancient issue, has never worked. See bug 297024 , which I have just marked as a duplicate of this. Was not fixable when I looked at it in 2013, due to limitations of the then Chromecast protocol and API, but that may have changed.

Yeah, I expect this would need some plumbing from Blink (hence Remote Playback API should've made it easier) but after investigating whether we can actually pass text tracks (as URLs I assume) to the Chromecast default player.

Assigning all my bugs to Mounir for him to triage and close/reassign later.

Status: Assigned (was: Untriaged)
Assigning to Mounir for decision so that these get out of the general untriaged bucket.
