bad scrolling when combining elements with fixed and absolute positioning and a canvas

Reported by dimovpe...@gmail.com, Sep 30 2016

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/53.0.2785.116 Safari/537.36

Example URL:

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. load attached chrome-53-canvas-scroll-bug.htm in chrome 52 on windows (doesn't repro on mac)
2. if the contents is not scrollable, reduce the height of the browser window
3. scroll the contents

What is the expected behavior?
text and canvas should both scroll together

What went wrong?
text on the left does not scroll and is instead partially (or fully) erased, as if the background is scrolled down over the text

Does it occur on multiple sites: N/A

Is it a problem with a plugin? No

Did this work before? N/A

Does this work in other browsers? Yes

Chrome version: 53.0.2785.116 Channel: n/a
OS Version: 10.0
Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 23.0 r0

This is the smallest repro I could get based on a GWT app. The workaround is to remove the absolute positioning of the input element and instead set display:hidden. It appears that the combination of a content wrapper with fixed positioning, the canvas and the absolute positioned input element (that comes from a GWT FocusPanel in the production all) triggers this scrolling behavior.

Issue 649332 is possibly related, visually looks similar but the repro html is very different and it repros on mac, whereas my repro only repros on Windows.

failed to mention that this used to work in chrome 52 and stopped working with the auto-update to 53

Able to reproduce this issue in Windows 10 with chrome version 53.0.2785.116, but in the latest version i.e 54.0.2840.59 the issue is fixed.

dimovpeter@, could you please update the chrome to the latest version and try this scenario with clean profile and let us know you observation.
This no longer repros for me in 54.0.2840.59. Thanks!
