The current infobar contains a number of issues that we should resolve including:
- Infobar is blocking the download behavior but may not be clear to users
- Unclear that no action or dialogue dismissal leads to download not starting
- When navigate away, the infobar goes away and download never starts.
- Infobar dismissal leads to 60% of downloads cancellations.
- Replace behavior is confusing as the file is replaced but the user has 2 pointers to it in their downloads home. Deleting one of the listings will delete both entries since the file will no longer exist.
- Initiating multiple duplicative downloads leads to multiple stacked infobars
We should update the infobar behavior to the following:
-Infobar triggers for any file or page that is being downloaded that has same file/page name and url origin as the original file.
- Update infobar text
-“Do you want to download <<file/page name>> again?”
-“Download again” → will download the file and create a new file
-“Cancel” → will cancel the download
-“X” or dismissal → will cancel the download
-Clicking on <<file/page name>> should open the file
Note: Removed “replace” option. Users can always delete a download from the downloads home.
-If user downloads multiple duplicative downloads (e.g. Clicking download icon 3 times on a given page without resolving infobar) should only show one notification.
- If user navigates away without responding to infobar, this should behave like the ‘X’ or dismissal
-Show toast of “Download canceled”
