Chrome OS does not resume after sleep

Reported by dic...@dictvm.org, Sep 26 2016

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; CrOS x86_64 8530.81.0) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/53.0.2785.103 Safari/537.36
Platform: 8530.81.0 (Official Build) stable-channel link

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Do some work with Chrome OS
2. Close the lid
3. After a few hours, open the lid

What is the expected behavior?
I should be able to login and find all my work where I left off.

What went wrong?
The device just coldboots and after logging in, all my tabs/apps need to be opened again, losing all state that wasn't synced to the cloud.

Did this work before? N/A

Chrome version: 53.0.2785.103 Channel: n/a
OS Version: 8530.81.0
Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 22.0 r0

I am on a Chromebook Pixel 2013, non-LTE version. I am not sure if this is a regression from Chrome 52. I suspect that the underlying Linux system simply cannot restore the last state from a hibernation file, but I haven't yet looked closer at how Chrome OS handles sleep/hibernation states.

I'm available for debugging attempts.

Kalin, is the device supposed to resume after hours of sleep?

Just a heads up: This is still an issue with CrOS 55. Other Chromebooks don't show this issue, according to friends.

Summary: Chrome OS does not resume after sleep (was: Chrome OS does not resume after hibernation/sleep)
(Updating title since Chrome OS has never hibernated, which is typically used to refer to "suspend to disk".)

Can you file a feedback report immediately after the next time you see this (i.e. log in and hit Alt+Shift+i after you see the system cold boot)? If you use a different email address for the report than the one used to file this bug, please mention it here or email it to me so I can find the feedback report. Thanks!

It looks like link is still configured to shut down from suspend if the battery level gets low. (Its overlay has no disable_dark_resume powerd pref.) Was that an oversight? parrot appears to have dark resume enabled as well.
Kalin, are you able to repro this case locally?

@josafat, Tested on link with version 58.3021.3/9313.1.0 (Official Build) dev-channel.

Performed some testing and closed the lid for about 4hrs and I was not able to repro the issue.
