Hi, I'm having a similar issue... I swear this used to work before (with chrome 51 or 50 or something). My chrome version is not the ubuntu package, but I am using the stable nightly 403380 downloaded from here: https://commondatastorage.googleapis.com/chromium-browser-snapshots/index.html?prefix=Linux/

I figured the latest stable (or one just before it) from here: https://omahaproxy.appspot.com/

Chromium version: 53.0.2785.0 (64-bit)
OS: Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS 64 bit

Issue is: goto settings -> under "Sign In" press button "Sign into Chromium", get the "Sign Into Chromium" popup, enter email address, "Next" button -> password screen on popup, I type my password, click "Next" -> popup disappears, on preferences screen I am still not signed in.

Cannot logout because I'm not logged in. Repeating process is exercise in insanity. I've tried restarting chromium.

Running chromium with "--enable-logging --v=1" command line options, checking just after I try login:

Any ideas?
