[Site Settings] Change Learn more links in site settings' sub-subpages to (?) |
|||||||||
Issue descriptionEach sites settings sub-subpage (Camera, notifications, etc) seems to be treating 'Learn More' differently from the rest of settings, i.e. as its own row, detached from strings, and linked to a help center about the entirety of the page. A more preferred UI for this is a (?) at the subpage header level.

Yeah, this is what we were trying to hash out in crbug.com/635850 back in August.

An advantage of the "Learn more" text is that it is being localized according to the current language. Whereas the English symbol for question mark "?" is not conveying the "learn more" meaning equally well in all languages. Can we rethink this? Are there examples of other UIs that use a "?" icon across all languages?

@dpapad -- can you give examples of languages where it doesn't have the "learn more" meaning? It's the official MD "help" icon (see go/icons), so staying with it for consistency seems reasonable.

The question mark symbol "?" is not a symbol present in non-Latin based alphabets. For example in Greek the symbol for question mark is ";". Examples for other languages can be found at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Question_mark#In_other_languages_and_scripts.

Issue 631195 has been merged into this issue.

Here ya go. This has the notes about using the icon instead of "learn more"

This is fixed In the past, each content settings page had "learn more" as a separate row on the page. Since then, each "Learn more" row has been changed to a ? icon. A separate issue raised by dpapad@ is how these icons are localized. That's an issue being tracked at crbug.com/658700 , so I'm marking this as fixed. |
