I've found the identical behavior when the file is downloaded but in a .zip archive (as happens automatically when you download a group of files from Google Drive). Copying the files out of the archive to the local drive allows them to be opened. To reproduce, select multiple files in Drive (using Ctrl), right-click, select Download. Drive merges the files into a single zip file, Chrome downloads the zip file, and ChromeOS mounts the archive. Opening the files from Files.app leads to the same result as above. If the files are selected and copied somewhere outside of the zip (say, directly into Downloads) and opened, they work fine. |
