Issue descriptionUserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/53.0.2785.116 Safari/537.36 Steps to reproduce the problem: Enabling policy (PasswordManagerEnabled) set to 0 effectively disables the password manager. However, the local file "Login Data" in the user profile folder on the local machine still exists. If this file is deleted, it removes passwords from the manager, but if Chrome sync is enabled with the "Passwords" box checked to sync passwords, it will re-download them. What is the expected behavior? If Password Management is disabled in policy, do not sync passwords up or down. What went wrong? See above. Did this work before? No Chrome version: 53.0.2785.116 Channel: stable OS Version: 6.1 (Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2) Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 23.0 r0

Adding alito as owner, as he'll take over this bug.

FYI: I think this will be very similar to https://chromium-review.googlesource.com/c/chromium/src/+/703398 (which does the same thing for Wallet data). We just need to make https://cs.chromium.org/chromium/src/components/password_manager/sync/browser/password_data_type_controller.cc listen to changes to the password policy pref.

Triage ping: Any updates on this?

Sorry, this fell off my todo-list. I can try to get back to this soon (next week?). Let me know if there is any urgency to this that I'm not aware of.

Triage ping again: any updates here? If this bug does not fit into your todo list, can you possibly propose some other owner?

Sorry. This keeps slipping. I'm reassigning to georgesak@ for re-triage.

[1] is a CL that etiennep@ worked on last week. As vasilii@ brought up, we probably shouldn't piggyback on the 'PasswordManagerEnabled' policy for this. There should probably be a separate policy to disable password sync only (as opposed to 'SyncDisabled', which disables all of sync). Ideally, we also want to update the UI in about:settings/syncSetup. [1] https://chromium-review.googlesource.com/c/chromium/src/+/1155784

I was working on this a few weeks ago while on a short rotation on the enterprise team, but no longer working on it. Setting it back to "Available".

Considering policy 'PasswordManagerEnabled' has been ruled out, and this is now about introducing a new enterprise policy, adjusting to feature request and updating summary.

Hello, would you mind linking me to the policy? Thanks! |
