Some GTK themes overwrite SSL warning colors

Project Member Reported by s...@google.com, Sep 19 2016

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/53.0.2785.116 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Set GTK theme to "Darklooks" theme (gnome-themes-extras on Debian)
2. Visit SSL site with or without error (badssl.com)
3. neither red or green text / icon is shown (depending on ssl state)

What is the expected behavior?
SSL warnings should always stay colored, independent of set theme.

What went wrong?
Some custom GTK theme overwrites the red/green/yellow SSL warning color in the URL bar. This behavior seemed to have changed recently (as I didn't notice it before and am using a custom theme for a long time).

Did this work before? Yes Can't tell for sure, maybe 4 weeks ago

Chrome version: 53.0.2785.116 Channel: stable
OS Version:
Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 23.0 r0

The color should not be changeable by the theme, as users rely on those colors as a quick identifier for the trust state of a SSL website.

I just noticed that this behavior also happens on latest ChromeOS dev channel for the incognito window with default Theme.

If the theme sets the background to green, red, or purple, what would we display for the coloring...?

Color is a good cue, but our indicators intentionally also use shape.
Incognito also doesn't use color.

So, I think we actually handle this case pretty well.
lgarron@, Just a gentle ping: do we have any further update on this?

Thank you!

Sorry, I didn't pay attention before because I'm not the engineer for the omnibox changes.

Anyhow, the text is intentionally white. This matches the designer mocks. Googler-only link: https://drive.google.com/corp/drive/u/0/folders/0B6Wxmj9LZL6XQ3EyRThHVktpVWM
