Issue descriptionUserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/54.0.2840.27 Safari/537.36 Example URL: maps.google.com Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. Just observe the Google map display: place and street name label text briefly displays then is obscured by opaque rectangles. See attached screenshot. What is the expected behavior? To be able to see the label text! What went wrong? This appears to be a GPU issue. Using the "--disable-gpu" option results in the correct display of the label text. Does it occur on multiple sites: N/A Is it a problem with a plugin? N/A Did this work before? Yes All previous versions of Chrome beta as supplied via Ubuntu software updates until perhaps mid August 2016. Does this work in other browsers? A comment from JVApen on the Chrome Help forum (https://productforums.google.com/forum/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=footer#!msg/chrome/DTS3XMn9odA/G3UB9i4jAgAJ) suggested it could be a GPU issue, so I imagine this needs to be tested on identical hardware.

How would I go about installing a previous version? I'm willing to go back a few releases to try to find one that doesn't have this issue for me. However Synaptic tells me the only version available at present is the one I have - "54.0.2840.27-1 (stable)"

I am conforming and able to reproduce the problem with google chrome 54.0.2840.59-1 I am using Debian Jessie 8.6 Linux 3.16.0-4-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.16.36-1+deb8u1 (2016-09-03) x86_64 GNU/Linux Hardware : Dell Optiplex 790 Downgrade to google chrome 53.0.2785.143-1 and no problem. Thanks.

Tested on Linux Thinkpad X1 Carbon using chrome stable # M54 54.0.2840.71 and issue is not reproduced. Also tried "--disable-gpu" on chrome and still issue is not reproduced. Please update your chrome version and check if you still face the issue , please write us with your observations. And you can try a system restart. Thanks !

The issue remains on my ThinkPad X220, Ubuntu 14.04 with all available updates, running Chrome Version 55.0.2883.21 beta (64-bit). Symptoms continue, as described previously and demonstrated in screencap linked from comment #3. "--disable-gpu" provides a workaround, as does unchecking the box in advanced settings labelled "Use hardware acceleration when available" (I guess it does the same thing under the covers). I plan to upgrade to Ubuntu 16.04 soon, and will report on whether the issue persists.

Tested on Ubuntu 14.04 using chrome latest dev M56 #56.0.2906.0 and unable to reproduce the issue. Could anyone from MTV team , please check in the ThinkPad X220 or Ubuntu 16.04 . Thanks !
