when composing a message and hitting escape, the dialog closes and the message is gone

I'd expect that esc goes from insert mode to edit mode. I realize that this is not what happens, but closing the entire thing is a bit harsh.

+1. I've run into this fairly often, and losing a paragraph of text because of my vim-based muscle-memory is pretty frustrating.
