Issue descriptionChrome Version: 53.0.2785.103 Chrome OS Version: 8530.81.0 (Official Build) stable-channel veyron_jaq Chrome OS Platform: Google_Veyron_Jaq.6588.197.0 (Medion AKOYA S2013) Steps To Reproduce: (1) Set up alternative keyboard layout (German Neo layout) in the original setup dialog. (2) Log in as guest. Expected Result: Actual Result: The normal German layout is used, and the alternative layout has to be manually enabled again. How frequently does this problem reproduce? (Always, sometimes, hard to reproduce?) Always. What is the impact to the user, and is there a workaround? If so, what is it? Manually enable the alternative layout, and switch to it.

This should be following the owner's account settings. I'll double check what's actually going on.

Ugh. Yeah. It's just grabbing the system default. That's probably "WAI" but certainly not ideal. It would make a lot more sense to copy the keyboard setting of the owner account on the device.

@kuscher, I don't know the history of decisions for guest mode, but does using some of the owner's settings instead of system defaults make sense? Apart from keyboard layout, I've seen a similar request for Traditional vs Australian scrolling.

Marking available as this is not something I'm specifically planning to take on soon unless the priority is updated.

I agree that it makes sense to preserve owner's language input settings in guest mode. I'll keep lowest priority and assign to myself. We can revisit at a later stage.

Marking this as WontFix, because Guest session was specifically designed to be exactly the same on all the devices. That is why it is not customizable by design. For our Enterprise users we have Public session, which was designed specifically for that.

Sorry, that argument is invalid, as the guest session is not using the English keyboard everywhere, so it’s *not exactly the same* on all devices. Please re-open. (I’d also like an URL where that policy is stated.) Also, it would at least help, if the configured layouts for the device, would at least be enabled (not necessarily activated) in the guest session.

Please re-open. It doesn't make no sense. Keyboard layout should be the same as physical keyboard screwed on to the device.

Could you give an example when it doesn't match your physical keyboard? What is your platform name (from chrome://version)? Please also show "vpd_2.0" entry from chrome://system . What is your physical layout, and what is your default keyboard in guest mode? |
