[ChromeOS] Headphones not detected when plugs in to sound jack |
||||||||||
Issue descriptionChrome Version: v52 and v53 Chrome OS Version: v52 and v53 Chrome OS Platform: Acer c740, Samsung 303c and a few domains. Network info: If this information is truly required please request specifics Steps To Reproduce: (1) test the sound on the device before plugging the earphones (test right and left side) (2) Plug the ear phones in (3) Rerun the tests Expected Result: The sound should come from the ear phones. It should play from the right and left side of the ear phones. Actual Result: The sound continues to play from the head phones. How frequently does this problem reproduce? Always. We have a video attached to this bug. What is the impact to the user, and is there a workaround? If so, what is it? There is a currently a minor work around that involves wiping and performing a hard reset on the device. Please provide any additional information below. Attach a screen shot or log if possible. We also have multiple domain effected by this issue. Debug logs and video: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B9BQIK7d0CYNMWhhb19rSDV2UVk

Hi djeche, in the video there is no image showing whether headphone is detected. If you look at the menu in the lower right corner, you can see whether headphone is detected. If it is detected, but not selected, most likely it is because the user preference is stored in the profile. Please refer to https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=308143 The workaround you mentioned also match what would be expected.

We are having the same issue. It appears to be random and the 'wipe and reset' does not work some of the time. I have also noticed that some users can select the audio source in the settings popup and select headphones to correct this.

Do the users who can't select the headphones see the option for them displayed? Can you get one of them to file feedback while encountering the problem? Thanks!

This seems pretty bad. Is the only workaround really a hard reset?

The headphone jack still does not recognize headphones being inserted. Headphones are NOT an option in the audio sources. My Acer Chromebook 13 received a Chrome OS update today. Version 57.0.2987.123 (platform 9202.56.1 stable nyan-big) Firmware nyan_big.5771.63.0.

Kalin have we seen anything like this is test?

nyan_big shows consistent PASS test status - go/nbht. I can confirm the 3.5mm audio jack hotplug is working as intended. jeffrey.d.sachs@, can you please send feedback(Shift+Alt+i) at time you reproduce this issue? Also, when was the last time did you have it working properly? Expectation is to have output(Headphone) and input(Mic Jack) nodes in the audio menu at bottom right, see picture attached. The selection depends on if you previously unpluged the headphones as active or not.

I have the same issue, but maybe different. The headphone jack connects and it appears in the Output method, but audio doesn't switch from the internal speaker to headphone automatically. Toshiba Chromebook 2 (2015). 58.0.3029.31 dev

The active audio node depends on previous selection you've made, and the status(active/inactive) when previously unplugged. This model was added several milestones back(M51). Thus if you unplug the headphone jack at time you listen to the Internal speaker(being selected manually from the audio menu), next time you plug the headphone jack you'll still hear the internal speaker, till you manually switch to Headphone. Refer to issue 308143 . kaingardner@, do you reproduce this after you manually select 'Headphones', and then unplug-and-plug back? If so - file a feedback(Alt+Shift+i) report.

#16, thanks for that clarification. We receive MANY posts regarding sound problems on CBC because there is no documentation regarding how the sound SHOULD work. There are many third-party blogs and posts on this subject, but it is not included in the Help Center. A definitive explanation in HC could probably prevent many user complaints. #CBC-RS/TC-watchlist
