Issue descriptionUserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/54.0.2840.16 Safari/537.36 Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. no steps, just browsing and it will stop responding at random 2. 3. What is the expected behavior? 2 finger trackpad scrolling and touch features on touchscreen What went wrong? Trackpad scrolling no longer works and at the same time touchscreen input stops working. Did this work before? Yes before the windows 10 anniversary update. Chrome version: 54.0.2840.16 Channel: beta OS Version: 10.0 Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 23.0 r0 When this happens any other mouse works fine. Only happened after the windows 10 anniversary update and seems to be a problem with the microsoft precision touchpad setup from other reports.

Oh yes, I forgot to mention the fact (possibly most predictable bit) that all 3 of my computers are running Kaspersky Total Security 2017. Somewhere between Chrome, Kaspersky and Windows 10 is a problem.
,
Dec 29 2016
Ive experienced the exact same thing on my dell xps 9360. I downloaded an extension a user made from comment 109 and it seems to have done the trick

After waiting on for months, still no resolution. I removed Kaspersky total security 2017, using removal tool. Purchased Mcafee total protection, scrolling issue gone. I like Chrome a lot and it was a big pain to use other browsers, saved links etc most importantly casting to chromecast. Hopefully Kaspersky fixes this issue soon, or switch to other antivirus software.

Ive experienced the same problem on my ASUS UX410 with Win10 and KIS installed. I disable "touch-events" in "chrome://flags/" and scrolling issue was gone.
,
Jan 2 2017
Disable "touch-events" doesn't actually solve the problem. Two-finger-scroll works for a longer hours, but eventually stop working on my Asus UX410 laptop with win10 anniversary version and KIS 17.0.0.611

That's because people read the 1st post then answer. As I can confirm the problems gone in the upcoming redstone 2 release of windows 10 as confirmed by Kaspersky the matter is technically closed apart from a 4 month wait for the update. Best to manually update daily and delete the 3 offending files each time. Or buy another anti virus.
,
Jan 2 2017
You are right, i removed Kaspersky and installed Mcafee antivirus. After weeks, so far no scrolling issue. I liked kaspersky, but due to this scrolling issue, i have to move to another anti virus.
,

Re #124 - disabling touch events indeed didn't solve it in the end. As with the others, KIS is not really helping out here. My licence expires in 2 weeks and this isn't encouraging to renew...
,
Jan 3 2017
After my first help ticket expired last week, I decided to give this another try. Both times I references this thread. Here is Kaspersky's response: The issue has been identified as a bug by our developers. It is currently in testing with them. Unfortunately I do not have a workaround or further information at this time, but Microsoft confirmed the issue and told that fix will be available with Windows 10 Red Stone update 2 As the issue has been identified as a bug I can offer you a refund for the product. Please let me know if you would like to go with this option or await further information from our developers when it's available.

Trouble is I paid under £20 for 6 licences (5 machines each) so I'm better off waiting for the fix.

Does anyone know if signing up as a Windows Insider and updating to the Windows 10 Creators build fixes this issue? (since it was mentioned above that the bug has been fixed for Red Stone 2, which I believe is synonymous with Creators)
,
Jan 6 2017
Yes but you need the beta of Kaspersky add well and neither is very stable yet.

same here. Surface book with Kapersky.

I updated my surface 3 with the new insider update. And so far everythings working fine. Kaspersky is still runnin'. Until now no more freezes. Hope it will stay this way.

same issue happens here with kaspersky extension in windows 10. hopefully it is going to be fixed soon, either by windows update, kaspersky update, or chrome update.

My two finger scroll sometimes works sometimes not in chrome. It works when browsing the messages here for example, but in my yahoo inbox(opened on chrome) or youtube for example. I own a new dell xps 13 touch and yes, just updated windows to the latest. Not antivirus but de windows defender. The problem seems to be some compatibility between chrome and windows. Trying to make us try Edge? lol

Hi Dev Team, I have been following this post since months..! yet no fix has been released. I am using Dell laptop with Windows 10 home edition, re-installed Kaspersky with latest version. no change. Google Chrome is upgraded till date with auto update channel. 2 finger gesture works for a while after reboot or google chrome launch and after that it just stops working. Really frustating! But everything works fine with Firefox for internet explorer .. Please fix it asap. Thanks

Still waiting for Chrome to be optimized for Windows 10-- The interface is too small for touch, and something between WIN10, Kaspersky (unconfirmed, possibly coincidentally concurrent) and Chrome does not play well. Skimming the above comments, I didn't see anyone mention that the issue can be temporarily relieved by minimizing and maximizing one or more times, or switching between windows one or more times. But two touch scrolling will always stop working after a random amount of time, averaging about 10-15 minutes. I am on a Surface 3, latest stable firmware and system update. Likewise on Chrome, latest stable version.

Same here. Acer Aspire R13. KIS 17.0.0.611 (c) and chrome 56.0.2924.87 (64-bit). Problem goes away when disable KIS protection and exit the program. No real solution so far!!

What were you doing? 1] Power up laptop. 2] Start up Lotus Notes. 3] Start up chrome browser. What happened? 1] Once chrome browser have started up. 2] Touch-pad will hang, unresponsive to user. 3] After an unknown amount of time, touch-pad will work again, but with disabilities. 4] Two finger scrolling is disabled by chrome. What is affected? 1] Synaptics software that is responsible for track-pad and touch pad behavior of laptops, [It seems like chrome have blocked all commands of the Synaptics software]. 2] Two finger scrolling is disabled for all programs. 3] Track-pad scrolling is disabled for all programs as well. Current solution: 1] Restart the laptop. Laptop OS: Windows 8.1 Chrome version: Version 56.0.2924.87 (64-bit)

Under linux (Arch, kernel 4.10) too. Just stops scrolling on single tab (on other - works). 'Repaired' by copying url, and reopening (not reloading) tab.

Two finger scroll used to be fine until very recently. It just stopped working from the last couple of days with Chrome Version 56.0.2924.87 (64-bit). It is now fixed with the Version 57.0.2987.110 (64-bit). OS: Windows 10 Pro 64bit.

The update did not fix the problem, I lasted 30 minutes before 2 finger scroll stopped. Please do not post it is fixed until you have had at least a full 8 hours use. Microsoft have already identified the problem and will be rolling out a fix in the next windows update called redstone 2.

I have this (or a similar issue) on my Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro, and I've found that it is caused by using the two-finger scroll while reloading. That somehow kills touch-pad scroll event for that tab only. Steps to reproduce for me: 1) go to any website 2) reload the page as many times as you want 3) scroll only AFTER the page has loaded -- it still works 4) reload again and scroll while the page is reloading -- the page can no longer be scrolled via two finger scroll 5) switch to another tab and it can still be scrolled via two finger scroll The only way to fix it is duplicate the tab and close the old one. I have tested in FireFox and I am able to scroll the entire time the page loads, and after, using two fingers. I tested in Chrome Canary (latest version) and the issue actually seems worse. Please fix this. I noticed that reloading in general is way faster in FireFox. I wonder what else I've been missing out on...

I posted this over in the productforums: I was having the same problem. If I tried to scroll while a page was still loading 2 finger scroll would quit working. My fix was to go into chrome://flags/ and set "smooth scrolling" to "disable". I tested this several times with smooth scrolling set to "default"(on), and "disable". Scrolling never stopped working while smooth scrolling was disabled, but would always eventually stop working when on, though sometimes it would take a few page reloads before it stopped. It is still unknown if this fix will stand the test of time, but as I said, I did several tests with 100% failure rate with smooth scrolling on, and zero when off.

I've been using the Creator's update (which is nearing release) and the issue remains with Kaspersky. Switch to Norton and the issue is gone.

So, I don't this is random at all, or even remotely related to Kaspersky. Not sure what all the fuss was about originally. No Kaspersky here. Anyway, for me this typically happens when I navigate to a new page or whatever and try to scroll before the page has rendered anything. (I.e. while the page is still completely white and the loading circle thing is spinning) It doesn't happen every time I try to scroll before the page is rendered, but the only time it does happen is that time. So it's not just a random thing that happens eventually, as I could stay one some page forever and the scrolling will never randomly stop working. Also, this breaks scrolling for regular mousewheels as well. 2-finger scrolling on a trackpad is just a mousewheel interaction, so it's natural that it wouldn't work for a normal mousewheel either. Anyway, please fix this ASAP. I'm almost at my limit. Scrolling on a browser is one of the most basic things imaginable. If I can't scroll then it's just a MAJOR pain in the ass to use, and Firefox is just a click away if I want to resolve this now. Absolutely ridiculous that a browser like Chrome would face this kind of issue. I mean, it's not like it happens once in a blue moon, it's ALL THE DAMN TIME.

Experiencing this same problem on my Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon. As other users have said, if I go to another tab, the scrolling will work just fine there. If I close the tab and reopen the same page in a new tab, everything will be working again.. until it decides to stop scrolling after a while. Extra details - running windows 10, Chrome Version 57.0.2987.133 (64-bit) Hope this is resolved soon.

I have Kaspersky internet security on my Acer F5 windows 10 I tried disabling the smooth scroll, it worked for a while and then again it stopped working. The Recent windows 10 update didn't help fix the problem either.

I'm having it too, intermittently. It will affect one Chrome tab (often the same site time to time, but also others). Dell XPS13, touchpad, with a Synaptics touchpad driver. No Kaspersky. If I close the tab then open a new one to the same site, it resolves.

Experiencing this issue as well on my Asus S56C, though mostly only on manga reading websites such as mangafox.com (probably cause I don't really scroll through other webpages). Only affects my 1 tab and not the others already opened though.

Apr 21 2017
It sounds like most people here have Kaspersky installed - let's make this bug focused on that case. For people having an issue without Kaspersky installed please file a new bug with details of your case and just mention it here. Tentatively adding Blink>Input in case it makes sense for the input-dev team to look into this. Also /cc jschuh@ on the Windows team since this seems like some sort of Windows-specific problem that likely requires Windows expertise.

This sounds like a duplicate of issue 704410 and I wonder if that Kaspersky was causing that condition to be hit more frequently. Can people report what their experience using Chrome 58.* is? It started to roll out to limited populations this week.
,
Apr 21 2017
Issue still exists here with chrome 58. As mentioned before, this should be fixed with the rollout of Windows 10 Creators update. This is now available, so I will try that soon. Anyone can download now here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10

Still having this issue AFTER the Creator's Update on my Acer Aspire VN7-592G (Black Edition). Chrome version 58. I'll be in the middle of two-finger scrolling, and suddenly it simply "loses" the second finger and my cursor flies to the bottom or top of the screen. This is in addition to scrolling being generally less "effective" in Chrome (like much lower sensitivity/responsiveness) compared to other applications.

I installed this Kaspersky AV software on a windows test PC and I can confirm that it does reproduce quite frequently with this software installed. A standard mouse wheel does work. A trace shows that the events aren't hitting being generated at all. Trying to get SPYXX on the machine as it doesn't have a dev environment. anantha@ I'm guessing possibly something is wrong with the event dispatching?
,
May 4 2017
Look at these files wheel_scroll.sxl is a text file that shows the "bad wheel" scrolling. good_wheel_messages.sxl is a text file of a freshly launched chrome with "good wheel" scrolling. Seems we aren't getting WM_MOUSEWHEEL events but are getting events with message 0x0250 in its place.
,
May 4 2017
I believe 0x0250 is this message: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/mt608585(v=vs.85).aspx

I reproduced this with the Win10 creators update as well. I don't believe I get the error if I comment out the construction of the direct manipulation code: https://cs.chromium.org/chromium/src/ui/gfx/win/direct_manipulation.cc?type=cs&l=17 anantha@ this code looks questionable. Is it really supposed to do something? I don't see a behavior when it isn't created. I don't see different resolutions of wheel events on a dell laptop.

It appears that the direct manipulation layer being added no longer provides any benefit and only causes issues. I've confirmed both on a Surface and a Dell laptop with high precision touchpads that removing the layer doesn't change any behavior. Just disable the layer for now keeping the code around. I will remove the code after we've had this out in the field for a bit. I have Lenovo E580, Win10 v1803, no Kaspersky (I have Eset IS) and I have a similar issue. When using touchpad, my pointer freezes-unfreezes, its movement is delayed, 2-finger scrolling stops after some time - a page is stuck. Re-load or switching to another tab solves the issue for some minutes. The issue doesn't exist in the other applications (Mozilla, Edge, MS Office etc). No issues when using my mouse. This issue has been around since 2012 at least (according to the Google Chrome Help Forum) and is SUPER annoying. I don't have Kaspersky. Currently running AVG Free. Used Spy++ to get a log that indicates that the WM_MOUSEWHEEL event is being sent/received. It just doesn't seem to be processed for some reason. I've attached that log in case it is useful. I would be amenable to giving you guys a log of your own making if it helps fix this bug. PLEASE get this fixed! Thanks.

Same issue here with two finger track pad scrolling stopping working. It started a few months ago. I have it on multiple makes/models of computers, running different builds of Windows 1709, 1803, and 1809. Only other thing in common that was installed is Symantec Endpoint Protection. No Chrome updates the past few months have included a fix. I doubt its a Windows 10 issue unless some hot fix pushed caused it across all builds. This is very frustrating. Now as of a few weeks ago I am also seeing completely black screens intermittently when using Chrome browser, something I never saw before. Perhaps a memory management issue? I have plenty of available memory though. Last week I had a ton of chrome tabs open and the black screen would not go away so I had to close chrome. Upon re-opening it would let me restore the tabs but as soon as they all loaded I got a black screen again. No way out of it. I ended up having to lose all of my tabs.

I'd just like to say that this is also a problem for me using 71.0.3578.98 on a Dell XPS 13 with Windows 10. I use a trackpad with two-finger scroll, and multiple times a day the scrolling function will completely stop working while I'm using a tab. The only way for me to correct this is to switch to a different tab and then return, or to refresh the tab that's broken. I've tried all the obvious stuff like reinstalling, trying without any extensions installed, turning off various relevant flags. nothing has helped!

Been dealing with this issue for far too long now. Two finger scrolling just randomly stops and I can only fix it by resizing or minimizing/maximizing the window. I've never had Kaspersky installed. Why is this marked as "Fixed?" I'm still seeing it on: Surface Book 2 Windows 10 Version 71.0.3578.98 (Official Build) (64-bit)
