Chrome goes blank on MacBook Pro display for many websites due to High Contrast 0.9.2 extension

Project Member Reported by jeffi@google.com, Sep 14 2016

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_11_6) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/53.0.2785.113 Safari/537.36

Example URL:
mail.google.com

Steps to reproduce the problem:
Visit any of these sites with Macbook Pro
calendar.google.com
mail.google.com
drive.google.com
www.youtube.com
www.google.com with search results
www.amazon.com
www.facebook.com
www.linkedin.com

What is the expected behavior?
Content displays correctly

What went wrong?
Content for webpage shows briefly then blanks out if Chrome window is on Macbook Pro display. Content shows fine if I drag the window to an external display connected to my Macbook Pro. Content initially shows OK on Macbook display as I drag the Chrome window back to it but it blanks out after it's halfway onto that display.

Does it occur on multiple sites: Yes

Is it a problem with a plugin? Yes High Contrast 0.9.2 extension

Did this work before? Yes A few weeks ago

Does this work in other browsers? Yes

Chrome version: 53.0.2785.113 Channel: stable
OS Version: OS X 10.11.6
Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 23.0 r0

Problem did not go away after clearing cached and cookies. Problem did not occur with an incognito window.

Problem went away when I disabled the High Contrast extension:
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/high-contrast/djcfdncoelnlbldjfhinnjlhdjlikmph

Not sure if it was an update to Chrome, the High Contrast extension or something else that got me in a bad state.

My current setup:
MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014)
Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB
OS X 10.11.6 (15G31)
Chrome 53.0.2785.101 (64-bit)

Stephen, sounds like the same bug of global filters not working?
