||
Issue descriptionVersion: 55.0.2859.0 32bit OS: Win7 What steps will reproduce the problem? (1) Have a bunch of pages open in Chrome 54.0.2840.16 (2) Uninstall Chrome 55 using Windows Control Panel What is the expected output? Chrome 54 is left alone What do you see instead? Chrome 54 disappears with all of my tabs. Restarting Chrome 54 shows "Chrome did not shutdown properly. Restore?" chrome://crashes does not contain a crash entry

Sadly, I wasn't able to reproduce this on the same machine with the same builds, so this probably should get WontFixed unless someone else can repro.

1) How do you have Chrome 54 and Chrome 55 installed? 2) If you mean that your Chrome 55 was Canary or Chromium and installed side-by-side then what you experienced is possible if the uninstalled Chrome was believed by the installer to be running and couldn't be smoothly closed (in which case the installer kills all chrome.exe processes).

PS: sorry answer to #1 is in title, your Chrome 55 was Canary, the OP doesn't re-mention it so I missed that... Still, #2. Unless you can repro reliably (which would indicate a problem with Canary hanging or improperly winding down), the issue is that somehow the installer found a locked chrome.exe for Canary and couldn't find a Canary window to send a WM_CLOSE to (or timed out doing so). And decided to kill all chrome.exe processes (it could be smarter and look at full paths when doing so but it doesn't). |
