Desktop capture on Win10 not showing Edge browser window |
|||
Issue descriptionVersion: Chrome 52 OS: Windows 10 What steps will reproduce the problem? (1) Start the Edge browser on Windows 10 (2) In a Chrome extension, call chrome.desktopCapture.chooseDesktopMedia(["window"], ...) What is the expected output? All application windows should be shown in the picker that Chrome shows when the API is called. What do you see instead? All application windows except the Edge browser window are shown in the picker window. It seems Edge and a few other programs (e.g. the native PDF reader in Windows 10) use some kind of new window style, and perhaps these windows need to be enumerated in a different fashion?

I think gyzhou@ had ever investigated this issue. And the conclusion is that we cannot capture those "new-style" apps. The problem is on the OS level, and thus so nothing we can do.

[triage]: Re #2: Can you elaborate on why this is the case? Can we reach out to Microsoft and ask if there's any way to solve this?

Sorry, I thought I'd already commented on this one. We have already discussed this with MS, the answer in #2 is based on the information we got from them. You can also see that the problem repros also with MS apps like Skype. (Hi Joi)

Hi Niklas :) Thanks a lot for the background. Sounds like this is just Microsoft being Microsoft, and it's definitely helpful to be able to point out to our customers that the same behavior happens with MS apps. Hopefully they will fix things so that enumerating these windows is possible in the future.
