Android tablet omnibox icon changes icons too often when searching in new tab |
||||||||||||||||||||||
Issue descriptionVersion: 54.0.2840.0 OS: Android 6.0.1 (Pixel C) What steps will reproduce the problem? (1) Open a new tab. (2) Tap on the omnibox, but don't enter any text. (3) Type a unique string of letters like "xzu" (4) Type ".com" (so that it shows "xzu.com") What is the expected output? Behaviour that matches desktop: desktop.mov (1) Search icon (note that the omnibox already has the cursor) (2) Search icon (3) Search icon (4) Page icon What do you see instead? pixel-c.mp4 (1) Info icon (tapping on it shows Page Info for chrome-native://newtab/) (2) Page icon (3) Search icon (white magnifying glass on blue background, which does not match the style for the new security indicators. On desktop, it's just a gray magnifying glass.) (4) Page icon Labelling with Hotlist-SecurityIndicators because the introduction of the info icon makes the new tab page experience on Android tablets more confusing than before.

NB: Per [1], the correct icon for (4) is the page icon. [1] Googler-only doc: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1aZkYU0x4GxQi9mEpR3mSGZpLXRrnXh_WMRozO79runo/edit#heading=h.tkg674110wzv

Adding to my queue. I haven't built for Android before so it'll be a good learning experience.

This only repro's on tablets and doesn't seem like a significant source of user confusion. |
