USB Type C Displayport Cable does not work in HP Docking Station |
||||
Issue descriptionUserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; CrOS x86_64 8530.62.0) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/53.0.2785.70 Safari/537.36 Platform: 8530.62.0 (Official Build) beta-channel chell Steps to reproduce the problem: 1.Plug HP Docking Station into USB-C port on Chromebook. Observe that hub is working normally by checking whether USB keyboard and USB mouse function properly. 2. Plug Displayport cable into second USB-C port on device. Observe that the monitor and hub work properly, even when in docked mode. 3. Plug Displayport cable into USB-C port in hub. Observe that the monitor no longer recognizes a device plugged in. What is the expected behavior? What went wrong? Monitor does not recognize a device when using a Displayport connection when using the HP Docking Station. Note that the HDMI cable plugged into the docking station does result in a functioning monitor. Did this work before? This might be expected since that cable is designed for DisplayPort Alternate Mode on USB-C. The HP USB-C Elite Dock is meant to output via DisplayLink over DP or HDMI ports. I do not think it will pass DisplayLink over USB-C.

Sorry for not catching that sooner Harrision. Yes, as Edward pointed out, you should use a DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable from the dock to the monitor. I tested this at your desk with my Pixel 2 and all three screens (laptop + 2 HP monitors) work properly when HDMI to HDMI and DP to DP cables are used with the HP dock.
