Active downloads number on App Icon is inaccurate.

Today, I noticed that there was a green number on my Chrome Icon. I had no idea what it meant. I thought it was notifications? I went around my tabs looking and couldn't find anything. Searching on Google revealed that it was supposed to be in-progress downloads. I have 4 profiles, and didn't know which one it was referring to. I went through all my profiles...and found no downloads in progress.

1) Bug: Even when no downloads are in progress, the App Icon has (2) on it.
2) Question: Given how much confusion I had over this number, does it provide utility to our users? Do other engineers that work on Chrome even know what it means?

As a Chrome user I'm aware of this green badge, although I may have been confused the very first time I saw it.

Re: looking for downloads, are you saying that you switched to each of your profiles and chose Window -> Downloads and didn't see anything? I'm assuming that page will list all in-progress downloads.

That's right. I checked for recent changes to the downloads code, but I don't see anything.

Given that not everyone is confused by this icon, I guess someone should look into how this number could get out of sync with number of active downloads.
