Weird layout bug in RTL bookmark manager (due to kerning?) |
|||||
Issue descriptionTested on Win 10 (anniversary) x64 Canary. This may reproduce on other platforms, unsure (It may depend on font metrics). Run "chrome --lang=he". Create a bookmark folder in the bookmark bar named "Pa". Hit ctrl-shift-o to open the bookmark manager. Note that the folder name is truncated. I can't figure out the triggers for this. I believe it has to do with whether a letter pair is kerned into a smaller width -- for example, on my system, "Te" and "Fa" trigger this, but "Fe" and "Aa" don't -- but that's not the only factor. Again, on my system, "TeeT" and "eTTe" and "eTTeTe" don't trigger this, but "TeeTTe" does. I don't think this is a bug in the CSS of the bookmark manager, I think it's actually a layout bug.

I don't know what you mean by "a reproduction". Comment 0 has steps to reproduce that are as clear as I can make them. A screenshot is attached. Note how the selected bookmark's label is "..a" instead of "Pa" as it should be. (The ".." is supposed to be an ellipsis, but it's actually clipped off itself. So the text is elided incorrectly and then the elided text is clipped incorrectly.)

Thanks, this can happen even without kerning when overflow ellipsis is used but kerning makes it much more likely to happen.
