Issue descriptionUserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; WOW64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/52.0.2743.116 Safari/537.36 Example URL: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6nnZOqoqrX0 Steps to reproduce the problem: Windows 8.1 (6.3.9600) on a 96 dpi screen with "ClearType ®" and "Smooth edges of screen fonts" disabled. (e.g. : [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop] "FontSmoothing"="0" "FontSmoothingType"=dword:00000000 And relogin. ) Go to ANY site with WebFonts on it. What is the expected behavior? What went wrong? My eyes bleed with any text rendered with any web font. Does it occur on multiple sites: Yes Is it a problem with a plugin? No Did this work before? Yes 51 Does this work in other browsers? No FF 47 Chrome version: 52.0.2743.116 Channel: stable OS Version: 6.3 Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 22.0 r0 At least I can disable webfonts in FF, while painkiller pills is the only option with Chrome 52. BTW, IE11 works just fine. just fine.

We used to force antialiasing on for webfonts, regardless of the "Smooth edges of screen fonts" setting. This can clearly be seen in the M51 screenshot. Looks like we're no longer doing that in 52. Ilya, would you mind looking into this?

Hmm. If it meant something: even adding -webkit-font-smoothing: antialiased; or subpixel-antialiased does nothing.
