Monitor not supported error seen on ASUS Chromebox / Toshiba TV / HDMI when powering tv off (and on?)

Project Member Reported by glevin@chromium.org, Aug 22 2016

Issue description

Device: ASUS Chromebox
External Monitor: Toshiba TV
Cable: HDMI

Spun off from Issue 631182:
"It's a funny error message considering my setup. I have the ASUS Chromebox connected to a Toshiba TV via HDMI with a resolution of 1280x720 with no problems. It's only when I power off the TV and then come back later do I see this new message: "Dear Monitor, it's not working out between us. (No supported resolution found.)" Of course, as the screen lights back up, everything works normally."

I suspect that the TV is sending a different EDID when on and off, if so that's working as intended, and we should probably improve the message part on the Chrome side for that case.

Greg, can you attach the EDID of the TV while the TV is off? Thanks.

I cannot. All these issues 640004-640008 were transcribed from random one-off comments on Issue 271481 , where they didn't really belong. In each case, what I filed is all I have... none of them came from me. In this particular case, the original comment was added by a deleted user, so there's no one we can even follow up with. If the bug report itself doesn't have enough info to pursue a solution, feel free to "Won't fix".
