Monitor not supported error seen on ASUS Chromebox / Samsung 1080P screen (T27B300) / HDMI

Spun off from Issue 631182:
"I don't know why it showed this message ("Dear Monitor"), but the resolution looks ok, xrandr detects the HDMI connection and the resolution without any problem including overscan (which also shows on the Chrome screen settings)."
