The backspace key is no longer operating correctly in chrome version 52

Reported by boosted5...@gmail.com, Aug 14 2016

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; WOW64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/52.0.2743.116 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Go to a website.
2. Click on a link.
3. Press the backspace key. Browser does not return to the previous page.

What is the expected behavior?
When pressing the backspace key, the browser should return to the previously displayed location or page, like every file browser, operating system, music browser, and other form of navigation on the computer as created in the last 50 years.

What went wrong?
Standard functionality is no longer working correctly.

Did this work before? Yes All versions prior to the current version of chrome.

Chrome version: 52.0.2743.116 Channel: stable
OS Version: 10.0
Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 22.0 r0

I hope this is a bug, because otherwise, your browser is not going to be use-able on a touchscreen/keyboard hybrid tablet any longer. It is impossible to manually interact with the the alt and arrow key to return when you are holding the device, when you could previously just press backspace. Why would you make it harder to perform basic navigation? Touch-pads are inaccurate and slow, and on the touchscreen, the back buttons are far too small to be of use.

How do I reply to the google product forum with follow-up questions/ comments? My workflow is broken.

The sheer number of issues duplicating #608016 make me wonder which side had lost more - those who once in a blue moon haplessly lost form data while pressing Backspace (never happened to me in ~15 years of browsing), or those who press Backspace tens of time every day (hour?) to navigate.
