Chrome forgets "Always show the bookmarks bar" across system updates |

Issue descriptionUserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; CrOS x86_64 8350.68.0) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/52.0.2743.116 Safari/537.36 Platform: 52.0.2743.116 (Official Build) (64-bit) Steps to reproduce the problem: On the prior version of Chrome: 1. Navigate to chrome://settings 2. Check the "Always show the bookmarks bar" option 3. Apply the update to the current version Note that this also happened for updating from $CURRENT_VERSION-2 to $CURRENT_VERSION-1. What is the expected behavior? This option should persist across system updates What went wrong? When one does a "restart to install", the browser shows bookmarks on new tabs but not on existing tabs, and navigating to chrome://settings/ shows that the option is unchecked. Did this work before? Yes Several versions ago I do not recall this option being forgotten on an update operation. Chrome version: 52.0.2743.116 Channel: stable OS Version: 8350.68.0 Flash Version:

Possibly something changed in terms of how the setting is handled? Seems weird that an update would cause this to be lost.

is it *just* the "Always show the bookmarks bar" or other things as well?

As far as I can tell, this is the only setting that is lost on the update.

I'm no longer working on Chrome, and unlikely to fix any bug I'm currently assigned. So this bug doesn't languish, I'm unassigning myself.

This sounds like preferences are getting lost. Is this still reproducible?

This only occurs on OS update, but I have not observed this recently.

I have this pref set and I haven't seen it get lost across updates, so I except this was a one time glitch. Please re-open if you see it again. |
