Issue description
Using canary, logged in with my account (sdefresne [at] google [dot] com). Have been synchronising my bookmarks for a long time but then today they suddenly disappeared.

Nothing immediately stands out from the sync-internals screenshot. Could we have your permission to view your sync data server side? That would make this easier to debug.

The offending deletions came from an ios client that was running a dev build of 54. Do you remember what you did on that device yesterday?

I did install a new version of Chrome canary that day. I was also told that I had to install mdm (thought I had already done it in the past). But not sure I made anything unusual on that device. +bzanotti who is the expert of sign-in on iOS.

Hang on. You had to install an MDM profile to sign-in to Chrome iOS Canary with your @google.com account? This is weird, MDM is only enabled for test domains, not @google.com.

Let me rephrase what happened to you: 1. You've been using your @google.com account on Chrome iOS Canary with your synced bookmarks for some time. 2. On that particular day, you updated the Canary version. 3. You realized at some point that your bookmarks were gone from the device. Is that correct? Few follow-up questions: * Did you change anything related to accounts or sync settings? * Are the bookmarks the only synced data that disappeared? * The bookmarks were only removed from this device, not everywhere. Correct?

1. no, only stable 2. I installed canary on both desktop and iOS on the same day 3. I realised they were deleted from all my devices I installed canary on desktop and iOS, and then signed in both devices. I may have clicked without reading on the questions asked when the about new profile/sync (whatever is the question, I can never remember). I do not synchronise any other data on that account (form and password are disabled, not sure if there is anything else synced). No, from all devices.

Oh, that's pretty bad. I have no idea what could cause this. The sign-in process can remove browsing data (including bookmarks) from two places: * After signing out a managed account (google.com accounts are managed). * Before signing in a new account when there is already some data on the device. In both cases, sync is already out (since the user isn't signed in), so any data removal should be local only.

Despite being old, this bug resembles some other real bugs that have happened in similar conditions(bookmarks being deleted on managed account signin).
