ChromeOS file selector often tells me that a particular file failed to sync and that it'll try again later

Project Member Reported by w...@chromium.org, Jul 22 2016

Issue description

Version: 53.0.2785.23
OS: ChromeOS

What steps will reproduce the problem?
(1) Ask some nice person to share a Google Doc with you.
(2) Move that Google Doc into your Drive.
(3) Have an acrimonious falling out with that person, causing them to un-share all Google Docs with you, in disgust. Or just ask them to un-share that doc.

What is the expected output?

Not sure what to expect, to be honest; maybe the document should just disappear from your Drive?

What do you see instead?

The Files app every so often notifies me that it failed to sync that Google Doc. I can't seem to see that doc in My Drive under Files, though, so I can't remove it from my Drive.

I do run Drive Sync on e.g. a Windows box as well, so perhaps some other device is repeatedly re-uploading the .gdoc stub file and ChromeOS is then failing to be able to actually fetch the document's contents..?
