Pasting javascript into address bar doesn't work

Reported by kenorb@gmail.com, Jul 22 2016

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_11_2) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/51.0.2704.103 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Copy the following line:

javascript:alert("test");

2. Paste into address bar

What is the expected behavior?
Javascript should be invoked.

What went wrong?
Instead of invoking javascript, I'm redirected to Google.

Did this work before? Yes Some time ago.

Chrome version: 51.0.2704.103 Channel: n/a
OS Version: OS X 10.11.2
Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 22.0 r0

I don't know if it's bug or feature, but I'm not happy with this behaviour.

I'm technical person and I'm using javascript code in the address bar to automate things quickly. I'm aware DevTools, but this was the quickest way when you want to invoke some javascript (like clicking certain elements and submitting the form) on hundred of tabs.

Typing it manually works as expected.
All javascript: prefixes are stripped across all platforms be design to prevent phishing... Even other browsers, such as Firefox employ such techniques. You can manually type in javascript: first, then paste.

Able to reproduce the issue on mac 10.11.5 chrome version 52.0.2743.82 and canary 54.0.2810.2 - copy pasting javascript:alert("test"); redirects to google whereas typing invokes javascript

This issue can be seen from M33 builds to latest canary

same is observed in Firefox as well.

Confirming the issue by considering it as feature request. Waiting for more inputs on this

Maybe there should be some option to enable it for people who wants that? It would be great.

This is intentional.

If you're doing the same action on hundreds of tabs, you can always use a bookmarklet.

Ok, using Bookmark would work, thanks.
