Shelf link to Sheets opens duplicate instances as opposed to single instance like Docs does.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Create Shelf Link to Sheets Doc
2. Click it and the sheet opens
3. Click it again and a duplicate opens
What is the expected result?
I would expect the Sheets link to toggle between minimizing and then the page like a Doc link does
What happens instead of that?
The Link opens a duplicate instance of the Sheets doc.
Please provide any additional information below. Attach a screenshot if
possible.
I have attached the right click of a Docs menu and it sees that the webpage is open and offers to "close" the tab. The Sheets right click doesn't offer a "close" and part of why I think it opens again and again. The problem happens with Slides too (repeatedly opening the same link). The Docs behavior is best

I'm unable to repro. If I just add both sheets and docs to my shelf and click them they both open a new tab for each click. If I right click on them both and set to "open as window" clicking toggles the maximized state. I suspect you have docs set to "open as window" but not sheets.

Thanks for the help. But I don't have "open as window" and what you describe is almost what is happening, but not quite: "If I just add both sheets and docs to my shelf and click them they both open a new tab for each click." But, it doesn't open an new instance of the tab for a Doc that's already open, it just brings the already open tab to the front. which is great. That's the best behavior so you don't have multiple windows of the same Doc open. In Sheets doing this same click opens the same sheet over and over again in a new tab each time. That's a different behavior and less ideal. Please relook. Thanks. |
