Issue descriptionUserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:47.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/47.0 Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. choose in settings After starting browser open startup page 2. Press ctrl+alt+del to clear all browsing data 3. The pop up windows with options to do it doesn't show up. It is necessary to go to setting and choose option with mouse What is the expected behavior? I don't know if it is a feature or a bug but I expect this shortcut to work whether I am on startup page or whatever tab I am and open proper pop-up dialogue to enable clear data. What went wrong? dialogue just doesn't open Did this work before? N/A Chrome version: 51.0.2704.79 (Build) Ubuntu 14.04 (64-bit) Channel: stable OS Version: 0a967bea2f0b592106657f0af87985ec6b6fe44d Flash Version:

It works for me.

Works for me as well, both in the old WebUI and the new MD settings. I believe you simply have focus in the omnibox or the search box. The keystrokes go to the input field, and cannot be recognized as a shortcut. That is working as intended.

> "I believe you simply have focus in the omnibox or the search box." Yes. That's correct. But in Firefox it works everywhere, doesn't matter whether it is in omnibox or search box. So I thought it would be great to have in Chromium the same.

Interesting. OK, it's not surprising to me personally that the edit box eats keystrokes, but maybe it's worth considering. +rolfe@ Would you be the right person to look into this, or can you route it?

Is this an accurate summary? 1) On Settings > On Startup > Open a specific set of pages 2) Ensure cursor is active in text field to set the page URL 3) Do shortcut keyboard command to clear browsing data 4) Nothing happens, when the request is it should open the clear browsing data dialog This is what I get for both Firefox and Chrome on Mac. (For Firefox my cursor is in the "Home Page" text field when I try to clear browsing data - nothing happens.) I do see that in certain Chrome text fields the shortcut command works (e.g. omnibox, add bookmark dialog) and in others it doesn't (open to a certain tab dialog in settings.) But I'm trying to figure out what other browsers do that Chrome doesn't. Right now looks like within the context of setting a page to open the browser to, Firefox and Chrome are alike. Do I have the flow wrong?

> Do I have the flow wrong? The flow is correct (I don't have Mac to check anything else). But on Linux (KDE Neon) for Firefox it doesn't matter where cursor is, it just works. It is strange that this can be OS related. Anyway, I gave this example to show what desired effect is on Chromium. I am perfectly aware that this may not be a priority issue but it would be convenient if Chromium could have such functionality.

+hwi@ graciously checked platforms on this and makes the following recommendation: 1) Aim to match all OS behaviors to Windows (where both Firefox and Chrome handle ctrl+shift+del while the cursor is focused on a text field.) 2) Investigate whether current Linux set-up is a specific version bug or a platform one. (What OS/versions were battre@ and msramek@ testing on?) 3) Accommodate the two delete keys on Mac (a - within the main letter section and b - on the right above the arrows) so that both are supported in focused fields. Currently, FF supports both on unfocused text fields, and only (b) when focused. Chrome supports (a) on unfocused text fields and neither on focused ones. I'm seeing this possibly as a meta bug for supporting all shortcuts within text fields but with some exceptions (like quitting Chrome maybe). It might be just when an engineer can take a look for clearing history they could see if others are also not functioning properly: https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/157179?hl=en I can split the bugs up by platform for Linux and Mac but just need confirmation on what needs to change on Linux. Battre/Msramek - what were you checking on?

Whoops - realized my question for msramek@ and battre@ didn't go through as they weren't cc'd. To ask again - what Linux platform were you testing on? (Might be a bit late now so confirming on your current Chrome version would be good.) That will determine whether this is a platform issue or a Chrome one.

I was checking on Linux. That one accepts Ctrl+Shit+Delete from neither native Chrome UI edit fields nor the content area. I also checked on ChromeOS now. Ctrl+Shit+Backspace does not work in native Chrome UI edit fields, but it does work in the content area. Thanks for the analysis, rolfe@ and hwi@! Agree that this should be addressed for all shortcuts at the same time.
